Being Featured by Nikon for Chinese New Year 🧧📸
During this year’s Chinese New Year, I decided to try something different with my photography. Instead of focusing on portraits or performances, I spent time experimenting with shutter drag and capturing the small festive details that often go unnoticed.
Chinese New Year is full of textures, colours, and movement. Lanterns swaying in the wind, glowing decorations, and the vibrant atmosphere of the celebrations create endless visual possibilities. By using shutter drag, I wanted to translate that energy and motion into the photographs themselves.
The technique allowed the lights and colours to stretch and flow through the frame, creating a more abstract and dynamic interpretation of the festive environment. Rather than freezing a moment completely, it was about capturing the feeling of the celebration.
I also paid close attention to the details around me. The decorations, the lighting, and the festive elements all contribute to the visual storytelling of the season. Sometimes the smaller scenes can say just as much about the celebration as the big performances.

Photography often grows the most when we step outside our usual approach. Trying new techniques, observing the environment differently, and being open to unexpected results can lead to images that feel fresh and personal.
This feature is a reminder to keep experimenting, keep exploring, and keep chasing the light—especially during moments as vibrant as Chinese New Year. 🧧✨
